Overall design objectives of this project is to create places that support and celebrate independent senior living in all its manifestations, regardless of physical ability. This concept evolved from a diagram that clearly derived analytically from the sites, programs and pragmatic construction. This pattern is then cut, rotate, cut and shaped into each other and the space of organic structures. Various spaces from the space strictly for the majestic calm energetic elements of the concept of providing discovery. The involves forming the space between buildings as carefully as the building itself shaped to create an outdoor courtyard and space for a variety of scales and sizes for various grand intimate community activities. Outdoor plazas, terraces, balconies and windows further delineate see this as a place to gather, encourage community and allow for additional discovery. All units are equipped with private entrance, display windows that go to 6 “above the finished floor, wheelchair accessible shower, grab bars in toilets, wheelchair height – kitchen cabinet mounted ovens, loop handles on the drawers and cabinets attractive, high-set rack in the kitchen cabinets, front-mounted controls on equipment, front-mounted garbage disposal switch cabinet base, a high contrast glare free floor surface, the hand-push / pull finger to lock the door, electrical outlets installed at 19 “above the finished floor, the night lit by lights and wall mounted bathroom emergency call stations connected to the unit manager. The relationship is a grouping of sites produced “mini – environment” organized around a central current that serves as the main pedestrian street, culminating in a community building, park, bocce ball field and the adjacent river. Network of walkways, breezeways on the second floor and a bridge linking support and encourage citizens to live and free to explore their community in various ways.
