California-based advanced design office to share with us their design for Monterey in California Residence. Monterey Residence hacienda interpret traditional architecture to create a contemporary design focused around the yard. Three band told the house the organization, reflected in the outer surface of the fluid. The roof and build a relationship with the ground plane to represent the upper and lower bands respectively. Perforated leather exterior edge met to create a visually prominent band representing the center, the program describes the separation and circulation of passengers. This program includes private between the upper and middle bands, while public programs occupy space between the primary and secondary, basically a halfway house from the public and private. A perforated leather landscape and buildings connected to a vacuum chamber as hardscape extends from the inside out around the pool courtyard, blurring the line between public and private programs. The house’s aesthetic geometry efficiently perform home-based optimal design, features integrated passive, mechanical, and sustainable strategies. Green roof, photovoltaic systems, and the gradient of skin perforation help home passive cooling and heating systems and natural ventilation while maintaining the fluid and shifting relationship with the site.
